London South Bank University is an award-winning university known for business, arts, science, engineering, health, social care and law.


It began as the Borough Polytechnic Institute back in 1892 and has had a few name changes and a few moves in direction since then. Now, it’s a very highly regarded institution with a number of recognised alumni.


London South Bank University has seven schools, including the School of Applied Sciences, School of Arts and Creative Industries, School of the Built Environment and Architecture, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Health and Social Care and School of Law and Social Sciences.


While it doesn’t place as highly in league tables as other universities in London, that shouldn’t put you off studying there. It’s won ‘Entrepreneurial University of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards and silver in the first 2017 ‘Teaching Excellence Framework’ awards.

For example, we have The Food Market at the Southbank Centre, the Royal Festival Hall’s Canteen, OXO Tower Restaurant, Skylon, The Athenian, La Barca, Crust Bros, Baltic, All Bar One, Banh Bao Brothers, Bao Fa Garden, BFI Riverfront, Burger King, Fateema, Giraffe and a wide selection of other bars and restaurants.


Then there’s Borough Market over by The Shard. If you don’t find an ingredient there, it’s probably not worth eating!

Manna Ash House is just a few minutes’ walk from London South Bank University as well as King's College London Waterloo Campus, Waterloo train station, The Shard and Borough Market.


It’s a great location, close to bus routes and Southwark Tube station, shops, pubs, bars, restaurants and everything along the South Bank.

All buildings provide safe spaces that are well maintained, and social spaces are kept clean and tidy and can include laundry areas for extra convenience.

What other fees and charges are there?

Sanctuary Students don't believe in hidden charges or fees. All rents are clearly advertised, all bills are inclusive and there are no extra fees or charges. The only exceptions would be for damage or extra cleaning, but that’s standard.

All you need to pay is your rent, food and whatever you have for your room. If you bring your own TV and watch live TV in your room, you will need a TV licence, otherwise, no fees, no charges.

Is the student housing fully furnished?

Yes, all our London student housing is fully furnished. Rooms are en-suite and include all furniture. They are also equipped with all living items and everything you’re likely to need.

All you’ll need to bring is your bedding, kitchenware and any special items you cannot live without.

Transport in London

Transport in London is plentiful and easy to access. Whatever form of transport you prefer, there’s something here for you.


Sanctuary Students’ London South Bank accommodation is very convenient to class but if you want to travel further afield, you can.


The university is close to Elephant & Castle, Lambeth North and Borough Tube stations and Waterloo rail station.


Buses run all across the South Bank and through Elephant and Castle. Some routes run 24/7, while others run in the daytime. All are cheap, regular and easy to use.


We don’t recommend driving to university in London, but if you do, the A3204 and A2 are the closest major routes to class.


If you’re arriving by air, London South Bank University is a reasonable rail journey from London City Airport, Heathrow and Gatwick airports.


Getting around London is often easiest by Tube or by bus. Thanks to the Oyster card and contactless payments, you can travel whenever and wherever you like quickly and easily.
