About King's College London

King's College London, is a public research university founded in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington. It is the oldest university in England and one of the most well known.

The university is ranked within the top 7 universities in the United Kingdom and includes 14 Nobel laureates as current or former students.

It’s a large university with over 27,000 students across several campuses including Strand Campus, Guy's Campus, Waterloo Campus, St Thomas's Campus and Denmark Hill Campus. The main campus is by Temple station in the City of London by the River Thames.

King's College London offers over 180 undergraduate courses, postgraduate and research across many fields of study.

KCL is best known as the largest healthcare learning centre in Europe. That includes campuses at three teaching hospitals across the city. It is also known for law, social sciences and humanities.

Student life in London

Studying in London has to be one of the best ways to spend your student life.

Our Imperial College London student accommodation is in the centre of town and a short distance from class and local amenities.

Tube stations and bus stops are never more than a few minutes’ walk away and shops, cafés, pubs, bars, clubs, museums, galleries and other amenities are never far away either.

The college itself is close to Knightsbridge, Natural History Museum, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Victoria and Albert Museum, Chelsea FC Museum and Stadium, Saatchi Gallery, Belgravia, Buckingham Palace and other highlights of London.

King's College London is definitely prestigious. It’s Britain’s oldest university, is famous for medicine and is ranked in the top 7 of UK universities. Despite all that, it’s an easy going place to study with all the benefits of student life you’re looking for.

Is King's College London hard to get into?

Yes, King's College London is hard to get into. It can afford to take the cream of the crop from admissions and you’ll need first class grades to get a place. The nursing school has lower entry requirements because of the nature of the work but you should still expect to have to work hard to be offered a place.

Is London a safe place for students?

London is a safe city to be a student in. Like any large city, there is crime but as long as you’re careful where you go and take the usual practical precautions, you should never have a problem.

Avoid the estates, be aware of where you are, watch your purse or wallet and you should be fine.

Transport in London

As Britain’s capital, transport links into and out of London are plentiful.

London has access to multiple airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted and Luton. All are linked to the city via road, rail and coach.

London has multiple railway stations that cover the entire United Kingdom and Europe. Stations include London Liverpool Street, St Pancras International, King's Cross St Pancras, Waterloo, Paddington and many others.

The London Underground (tube) covers the entire city of London with several lines criss-crossing the city including Russell Square, Warren Street, Tottenham Court Road and London Euston Station, which are all just minutes from your student accommodation.

London also has lots of road links but driving in the city can be a challenge. There is also the London Congestion Charge to consider as well as parking!
