About the City, University of London

City, University of London is part of the larger federal University of London. It was founded in 1894 as Northampton Institute and was created when it joined with The Inns of Court School of Law and was granted its charter in 1966.

City, University of London is based in Islington and has campuses in the City, the West End and East End. There are around 20,000 students in total, a mix of undergraduates and postgraduates.

The university was ranked the top in London for student satisfaction and 36th in the UK. It specialises in business, law and the main city professions. It has an excellent reputation and consistently ranks highly in university league tables.

Transport in London

As the nation’s capital, London is very well served by transport of all kinds.


 

The city has access to six airports, Heathrow, Gatwick, City Airport, Southend Airport, Luton Airport and Stansted Airport. Some require a train ride or drive to get to but cover the majority of global destinations between them.

London has many railway stations covering local and national destinations. Stations include Liverpool Street, Waterloo, King’s Cross St Pancras, St Pancras International (Eurostar), Paddington and Euston.

The London Underground (tube), covers most of inner London and some of outer London too. There are hundreds of stations covering several separate lines. Many services run 24/7.

The road network in and around London is also easy to use one you get used to the traffic. The M25 surrounds the city with the main motorways numbered in a clockwise fashion: M1, M2, M3, M4 and so on.

City, University of London student life

City, University of London is based in Islington, between The Angel and Farringdon. It’s a nice part of London close to King’s Cross, University College London Hospital, London College of Fashion, Golden Lane, York St John University, The Charterhouse, Barbican Centre, St Bartholomew's Hospital, Sadler's Wells Theatre, The Postal Museum, Charles Dickens Museum and local shopping, dining and entertainment.
