About SOAS University of London

The School of Oriental and African Studies, SOAS, is a world leader in studies around Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It has one of the best libraries on the subjects in the world, as well as the Brunel Gallery showing amazing art from the region.

SOAS was founded in 1916 on the site of the old London Institution. Its mission was to teach colonial staffers as well as missionaries, doctors and other professions about Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

SOAS has evolved much from then and is now a leading light in the study of the region.

It now teaches a range of subjects across three faculties, The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Languages and Cultures and Faculty of Law and Social Sciences.

Each is highly regarded for the quality of its teaching and ranks 10th in the world for Anthropology and 15th in the world for Politics (2022 QS World University Rankings).
