About the city of London

London is the capital of the United Kingdom and a city steeped in history. It’s been consistently inhabited for well over 2,000 years and much of that history still shows today.

London is a melting pot of cultures, nationalities, languages, lifestyles, cuisines and people, and it’s a better place for it!

Home to Buckingham Palace, St. Paul's Cathedral, 10 Downing Street, London Bridge, Tower of London and other famous landmarks, the city is rich in culture – there’s always something to see and do while you’re here.

Despite its size, London is a relatively friendly city. British people can be reserved but once you get to know them, they’re friendly people willing to help anyone who needs it.

With over 9 million people calling London home, thousands of stores, restaurants, pubs, bars, nightclubs and entertainment venues, the one thing you won’t be short of here is choice!

Transport in London

The main benefit of central London student accommodation is its proximity to transport links. As the nation’s capital, London is well served by air, road, rail and bus as well as bicycles and foot traffic too!

London has access to six international airports, Heathrow, Gatwick, City Airport, Southend Airport, Luton Airport and Stansted Airport. Each is a short distance outside the city and is linked by road and rail.

London is the country’s rail hub and has some of the world’s best-known railway stations. They include Waterloo, King’s Cross St Pancras, St Pancras International (Eurostar), Liverpool Street, Paddington, Euston and Clapham Junction.

The London Underground, or Tube, provides cheap, easy public transport across London. There are a number of different lines, many of which run 24/7. Despite its complexity, the Tube is very simple to navigate once you get used to it!

If you want to arrive by car, London is surrounded by the M25 linking M1, M11, A12, M2, M3, M4 and thousands of smaller roads. Our central London student accommodation doesn’t have parking so we don’t recommend driving, but drop off and pickup is simple!

Student life in London

London is an amazing place to be a student. Not only do you have some of the world’s leading educational institutions, you have a vibrant city with lots going on all around you.

Our central London student accommodation is all positioned to offer easy access to class but also to tube stations, bus routes and leading city highlights. We’re an accredited provider of accommodation, so you can trust we’re delivering a professional service. But Sanctuary Students is not just a ‘safe bet’ – we go above and beyond to offer our student community much more than a place to sleep. Check out our More than just a room page for further information!

There are literally thousands of museums, galleries, shops, cafes, bistros, restaurants, bars, clubs and places to visit. There is so much here that you’ll never see it all even if you’re studying one of the many longer courses!

Some of the many highlights of London include, The Tower of London, The National Gallery, Leicester Square, Chinatown, St. Paul's Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe, The Victoria and Albert Museum, Carnaby Street, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Platform 9 ¾, Tower Bridge, The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, The London Eye and The British Museum.

Shopping and dining opportunities are spread across the city and provide all the retail therapy and chill out time you could ever need.

Central London student accommodation FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions asked about student accommodation in Central London:

Most of our student rooms in London are studios or en-suite bedrooms in shared flats. They will all be within our own secure buildings and provide a safe, secure space to live while you study in the city.

Different buildings will have different types of accommodation but all offer well-maintained communal areas, spacious en-suite rooms, secure entry and exit and include everything you need to begin living right away.

The cost of our cheap student accommodation in London varies depending on the location and the type of space you want. All rents are competitive and compare well with halls of residence and private landlords.

All rents with Sanctuary Students are fully inclusive so the rent you pay includes all bills, internet, upkeep, contents insurance, cleaning, security and more. All you need to pay is food and anything for your room.

Yes, it is! All central London student accommodation is fully furnished and equipped with everything you’re likely to need. You’ll need to bring your own bedding, cutlery and kitchenware but the accommodation includes a kettle, ironing board, bed, study area and furnished communal spaces.

We don’t recommend bringing your own furniture with you as all rooms are furnished. However, if you do want to bring a few things to make it feel more like home, you can.

There are no bills with our central London student accommodation! Rent is fully inclusive. As we mentioned above, your rent includes gas, heating, electricity, internet, cleaning communal areas, building maintenance, contents insurance and everything else.

All you’ll need to pay is your food and any extras you might want for your own room.

There is no ‘best’ area of London to live in. We would recommend living in one of our many central London student accommodation close to the college or university you’re studying in.

While public transport is cheap and plentiful, saving time getting to class gives you more time to enjoy your time in the city.

We recommend booking your student accommodation in London as soon as you accept an offer from the college or university.

The quality and price of our student houses in London means they are exceptionally popular. We operate on a first come, first served basis so the faster you book your space, the higher your chances of securing it.
