Dundee has a total student population of around 20,000.

The University of Dundee used to be part of the University of St Andrews before becoming independent. It is a highly regarded university, often ranking within the top 10 of UK league tables and highly placed in world rankings.

The main campus is within the West End of the City of Dundee. It has steadily expanded and been renovated in recent times with the addition of several new buildings.

The university is known for life sciences, health, medicine, forensic science, dentistry, archaeology, law, art, biological sciences, business management, education and a range of other subjects.

The university has around 16,500 students, with around 12,000 of those being postgraduates. This makes for a very lively campus!

Transport in Dundee

Dundee is a major Scottish city, so is relatively easy to navigate and get around.

Dundee Airport is close to the city centre along the banks of the river and links the city to cities across the UK. However, it doesn’t fly many international routes.

Dundee has good rail links, with Invergowrie, Balmossie and Monifieth stations all serving the city and surrounding area. The city has Intercity links as well as local and rural lines.

Road access is good, with the M90 and A90, A92, A930, A85 and A929 all running relatively close to the city. The city centre itself is actually easy to navigate by car, which is a bonus.

Our accommodation for Dundee students is all in the city centre, so getting around will be a breeze!

Dundee student life

Dundee is a friendly lowland city with a modest student population. Locals are friendly and welcoming and there’s a lot to see and do.

The town itself has around 150,000 people, 20,000 of which will be students during term time.

There are plenty of bars, pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, clubs and things to see and do. And if you fancy a big night out, there’s a train to Edinburgh that runs fairly regularly.

The proximity to Edinburgh and the port means there’s a cosmopolitan outlook and an acceptance of people of all cultures. It’s a nice place to spend your student years!

City highlights include Broughty Ferry Shoreline, The Flame Tree Café, Dundee Museum of Transport, Open/Close Dundee, Dundee Treasure Trail, Old Steeple, Royal Tay Yacht Club, Clark's 24-Hour Bakery, Dundee's Indie Markets, Dundee Science Centre, Discovery Point, The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum, Avertical World Climbing Centre, HM Frigate Unicorn, Olympia Leisure Centre and the University of Dundee Botanic Garden.
