Transport in Dundee

Dundee is one of the larger Scottish cities and is relatively easy to get around.

Dundee Airport offers flights from London City and Belfast City airports. Edinburgh Airport, 60 miles south, handles many more flights from many more locations.

Dundee has access to the rail network and isn’t far from local Invergowrie, Balmossie and Monifieth stations. Local and national rail lines come through regularly, so it’s a viable form of transport into and out of the city.

Road links are also pretty good with the M90 and A90, A92, A930, A85 and A929 road links either passing through or close to the city.

Even though Dundee is a port city, it services cargo and not passengers. The closest passenger port is Newcastle.

Dundee student life

Dundee is a friendly city on the River Tay and a nice place to live. It’s on the east coast, around 60 miles north of Edinburgh. It has all the benefits of living in Scotland without much of the harsher weather of the highlands.

Our Dundee student flats are within easy reach of everything that’s happening in town.

The city has around 150,000 people who are largely friendly and welcoming. With two universities and two colleges, there are lots of students here, which means lots of opportunities to make friends.

City highlights include Broughty Ferry Shoreline, The Flame Tree Café, Dundee Museum of Transport, Open/Close Dundee, Dundee Treasure Trail, Old Steeple, Royal Tay Yacht Club, Clark's 24-Hour Bakery, Dundee's Indie Markets, Dundee Science Centre, Discovery Point, The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum, Avertical World Climbing Centre, HM Frigate Unicorn, Olympia Leisure Centre and the University of Dundee Botanic Garden.

We recommend booking your accommodation as soon as you accept your place and have it confirmed to avoid disappointment.

If you’re a second or third-year student, we recommend booking at least six months in advance!

Dundee is a safe place to be a student. Even though it’s a city, there are much lower proportions of social issues that affect other cities. Dundee is largely a working city, but it also has a high proportion of students, so is geared towards the student experience.
