Best places to study in Liverpool
If you’re at university in Liverpool and live in noisy halls, getting some quiet time might be a bit of a challenge. Until then, you may like to know about a few favourite spots in Liverpool to hit the books.

Central Library
Central Library on William Brown Street is the logical place to study when you need quiet time. It’s open from 9am until 8pm during the week and has plenty of study spaces over two floors.
The library also has WiFi, a coffee shop and easy access to all the books you’re likely to need.
You can even use library computers if you bring your card. No need to carry your laptop, bonus!
Mother espresso
Mother espresso on Wood Street is a great coffee shop in Liverpool city centre. Just behind Bold Street, it’s an independent coffee shop with a light, relaxed interior, lots of seating and WiFi.
The venue sells decent coffee and snacks and has a great range of vegan food too.
It’s a social space with shared seating and individual small tables for when you need to hit the books.
92 Degrees
92 Degrees on Jamaica Street is one of the best coffee shops in Liverpool. Located in Baltic Triangle, it’s also close to student areas and not far from class.
92 Degrees has plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, a friendly relaxed vibe and serves great coffee. They also serve some decent snacks if you feel peckish.
It won’t be free as you’ll need to buy a steady supply of coffee, but is an excellent place to hang out and study.
Organico Juice Bar & Eatery
Bold Street is a scenic road with plenty going on and is home to Orgânico Juice Bar & Eatery and Leaf. We’ll discuss Leaf in a minute, but for now let’s talk about Orgânico Juice Bar & Eatery.
It’s a surprisingly spacious place with plenty of seating and high ceilings. It’s great for study sessions, hanging out and even a light meal for two over coffee.
There’s a good mix of coffees and veggie and vegan snacks. It has just about everything you could need and, if you stay here after university, you’ll still be using it many years down the line.
Leaf
Leaf is also on Bold Street and is another place popular with students and regular people too. It’s inside an art deco building that doesn’t look too great from the outside but delivers once you’re inside.
Coffee is cheaper in Leaf than other places, making it another of the best coffee shops in the city. Food isn’t bad either, the menu is extensive and caters for most tastes.
The space is comfortable and it’s also one of the best late night coffee shops in Liverpool. It won’t be much use at the weekend as it can get quite lively on a Friday or Saturday evening.
The Bluecoat
The Bluecoat is a community centre popular with artists and creatives. The Bistro within the building is an excellent place to eat, drink and hit the books.
It’s only open two days a week, Friday and Saturday but is one of the places to study in Liverpool on a weekend. Other coffee shops and open spaces can get busy on a weekend where The Bluecoat remains quiet and chilled.
If you’re in for a weekender and need some indoor space, this is the place to come.
Rocco Coffee House
Rocco Coffee House is one of many coffee shops in Liverpool city centre but also one of the best places to study in Liverpool. It’s on Lord Street, so it is ideal for study.
Spread over multiple floors and with plenty of character, this coffee shop is a firm favourite of many students and people who used to be students.
It’s relaxed, has some very comfy sofas and chairs and has a very relaxed feel.
It’s popular with students but also others too. You’ll see a steady stream of people throughout the day but fortunately not enough to put you off your work.
Milo Lounge
Milo Lounge on Lark Lane near Sefton Park is another top place to study in Liverpool. It looks upmarket from the outside, and it is, but it doesn’t charge like it.
Prices are reasonable, the coffee selection is good and there are plenty of snacks to choose from too. It’s an all round hangout, but the 3 rooms mean there’s plenty of space to unpack the books and get some study time.
Milo Lounge is another coffee shop in Liverpool that has a lively evening scene so you’ll need to plan accordingly if you need a long session. Start early and leave early, especially if you want to get any work done!
Tate Liverpool café
If you prefer to study surrounded by culture, the Tate Liverpool café is one of the best coffee shops Liverpool has. It’s a colourful place with plenty of character and none of the pretentiousness many galleries seem to have.
It’s a large, open space with lots of seating with tables, windows to watch the world go by and it’s in the middle of Albert Dock, so there’s that.
Tate Liverpool café can get busy at times but outside of the rush, it’s a chilled place to hang out and relax. Ideal for a little study time.
Co-working spaces
There are several co-working spaces throughout Liverpool to study if you really need to. They cost money, usually £10/12 per day but can provide a viable option if you really need some peace and quiet.
Options include DoES Liverpool, Avenue HQ Mann Island, Regus Liverpool City Centre, The Tapestry and a few others.
While you could easily spend that £10 on coffee and a sandwich in a coffee shop, a co-working space gives you peace and quiet at the expense of a social vibe.
An option if you really, really need to get work done though.
