The Best Places to Eat in Liverpool

Here are what we think are the best places to eat in Liverpool. We include each venue because of affordability, menu, food quality and ambience.

All the things we think are vital for any eatery.

Duke Street Food Market

Duke Street Food Market is close to the city centre and a great place to begin your food odyssey in Liverpool.

If we were to design our own food market, it would look like this. It’s light, spacious and relaxed. There’s no loud music, no shouting or hawking and plenty of places to sit and enjoy your food.

There’s a real mix of cuisines, from a Cubano sandwich to Siu Mai and most things in between. There’s also a cool QR code ordering system that works well.

The Club House - Chavase Park

The Club House is by Liverpool ONE and the courts. It’s a bar and restaurant that specialises in pub classics and comfort food. It’s a no-nonsense menu full of family favourites at reasonable prices, which is why it’s on our list.

The Club House is also convenient for your student accommodation on Grenville Street, being a short walk from class and the Baltic Triangle in the city centre.

A standout dish is the kebab. A proper hanging kebab with none of the dodgy ingredients we tend to expect from other kebab houses we could mention!

Baltic Market - Baltic Triangle

Baltic Market is one of our favourite places in all of Liverpool. Not just because it’s close to our student accommodation but because it’s a cool place to hang out and spend time.

There are a few eateries here offering everything from waffles to halloumi. Everything is priced sensibly and will be within the average student's budget. There’s also plenty else to see and do while you’re in the market.

The market is more suited to grabbing a quick bite than sitting down for dinner but the food you can get is top-class for the price.

Amalia - Campbell Square

Amalia in Campbell Square is a short walk from the Baltic Triangle and Liverpool ONE. It’s a friendly little place with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and good food.

That food is affordable too, with some of the best pizzas you’ll ever eat outside of Italy. If you’re feeling brave, there’s often a food challenge running where you’ll need to eat a certain dish within a certain time. A bit of fun if you’re up for it.

Prices are reasonable, quality is good and the location is ideal, minutes from the Baltic Triangle and our city centre student accommodation.

Derek’s - Allerton Road

Derek’s on Allerton Road is a short distance from the city centre, close to Liverpool Hope University. It’s a sandwich bar along the lines of Subway but with actual flavour.

The sandwiches are big, full of flavour and prove that you can do a whole lot with a roll and some filling. Prices are reasonable, you can eat on the move and they prove the perfect fuel for long study sessions.

A sandwich bar doesn’t technically qualify as a restaurant but it’s definitely one of the best places to eat in Liverpool if you like food on the go!

Casa Italia - Stanley Street

Casa Italia is apparently one of the oldest restaurants in the city just down the road from the Cavern Club. It’s an Italian restaurant in case you hadn’t guessed.

Just like the Italians, portions are generous, the welcome is warm and you’ll get to eat a plateful for much less than other places in town. It’s typical Italian fare, pasta, pizza, lasagne and so on, but it’s good.

There’s nothing quite like a big bowl of pasta to warm your soul on a cold day and Casa Italia is the place to get it.

Revolución de Cuba - Albert Dock

Revolución de Cuba is the perfect night out if you’re in the mood for some Latin American vibe. It’s lively, energetic and seemingly authentic. The food isn’t bad either!

It’s on the Royal Albert Dock and is with all the other pubs and restaurants in the area. Revolución de Cuba stands out for the culture and great food, delivering delicious dishes that reflect their home region.

While we haven’t been to Cuba, the food is good enough that we don’t really care whether it’s authentic or not.

Crust - Bold Street

Crust on Bold Street is a pizza joint that serves great pizzas for less than £10. Not all dishes are that cheap but it’s definitely possible to eat out on a student budget without feeling hard done by.

Bold Street is a great location, close to everything and big enough for larger groups. It has a relaxed, almost rustic feel that makes it one of those places you’ll end up hanging out far longer than you planned.

If you’re bored of the chain pizza restaurants and want more, Crust is one of the best restaurants in Liverpool city centre.

Mowgli - Bold Street

Mowgli on Bold Street is just south of Liverpool ONE and is convenient for our Marybone 1, Marybone 2 and Marybone 3 student accommodation. It serves delicious rustic Indian food that includes plenty of vegetarian options and a separate vegan menu.

Prices are sensible, the food is full of flavour and even though you may not actually know what you’re ordering half the time, you will rarely be disappointed.

Mowgli is a Liverpool institution and somewhere you’ll likely spend a lot of your time as a student in the city.

Camp and Furnace - Greenland Street

Camp and Furnace is another Liverpool staple. It’s in the heart of the Baltic Triangle, minutes from our student accommodation on Grenville Street. It’s a combination warehouse, studio, bar, eatery and club.

It’s a jack of all trades and does everything well. Chances are, you’ll spend a lot of time here as well as at Mowgli. It’s relaxed, diverse and has a great food menu at student-friendly prices.

Portions and quality are decent and you can eat, drink, party and be merry under one roof without leaving your seat.

Places to Eat in Liverpool City Centre

With the exception of Derek’s, all these places to eat are in Liverpool city centre. That means minutes from your student accommodation, convenient to class and to everything else that’s going on.

We featured each of these for their balance of quality, portion size and price. Each caters to modern tastes, offers plant-based options and are affordable on a student budget.

We love them all!
