It’s that time of the year again! The Great British Bake Off returns on 21st September – no doubt serving up some glorious cake-based cravings, patisserie perfection and even macaroon masterpieces (or should that be macaron?) – all with a side of drama, hopefully!
We don’t know about you, but we’re excited to meet this year’s contestants and see what they present to Prue and Paul. One contestant we’ll definitely be keeping tabs on is student Freya Cox. She’s got big shoes to fill – after all, last year’s Bake Off was won by Edinburgh-uni-based Peter Sawkins!
It seems that students are the ones to beat in the baking stakes, which got us thinking about some fun and simple recipes that you can try in the comfort of your uni digs. You never know, you might even garner a ‘Hollywood handshake’ from your flatmates!
So, without further ado, here are our four amazing student show-stoppers to have a go at. We’ve chosen simple yet delicious recipes that are super easy to make on a student budget. Let’s dig in…

2. Simple banana bread (The Student Food Project)
Bread week is always a popular episode, and it’ll take something *very* special to beat Series 6 contestant Paul Jagger’s epic bread lion. We think last year’s lockdown trend might just be up to the task, though – after all, no-one can argue with our nation’s love of banana bread! Check out this simple yet tasty recipe, which can be easily achieved on a student budget…
3. Indulgent brownie strawberry trifle (Student Eats)
