This year we are taking part in the Food Waste Action Week, looking at ways to reduce the amount of food we throw away. It has been proven that creating and sticking to a meal plan You can take part by sending in your weekly menu plans (menu planning is proven to reduce waste by allowing you to buy just what you need) and the best will be published on our socials pages. Keep your eyes peeled and we will be posting some great ideas for using up left over food from great soups to free hair conditioner!
Did you know that from March 31, all Sanctuary sites (and student halls across the country) will be required to separate food waste? This means that instead of unused food going to landfill and producing methane as it rots, it will be sent to anaerobic digestion plants where it will be made into biofuel. There will be lots more info coming on what can and can’t be recycled coming soon and if you have any questions just ask your site teams- we’re here to help!
Started in Sydney, this now global event asks us to switch off lights and electrical items (where safe to do so) for an hour on 22 March from 8.30-9.30 pm and enjoy the peace and quiet. No competitions for this, just take a positive step to join a global movement and help stop climate change!
Send in photos of your clean and tidy spaces to win prizes as part of our Great British Spring clean event! The best room at each site wins £10 and the best flat gets £25 to buy a meal in for flatmates.
We hope you have fun spring cleaning and feel better for it –Research shows that having a neat, well-organised, and sparkling clean home plays an important role in mental health and general wellbeing.
You know what they say… Tidy home, tidy mind, and all with the added benefit of being able to donate some items you no longer need to the British Heart Foundation – where did that heavy winter coat go?
Last time we spoke about how to keep warm in winter and still reduce your carbon footprint, but now the better weather is on the way, it’s time to turn down the heater and get out and about. While it might not quite be sunbathing weather yet, the spring sunshine is guaranteed to improve your mood AND give you a reason to blow the cobwebs away.
Finally, thanks to everyone who responded to our survey, we got a great response rate and it was fantastic to hear your views and the ways you are making a difference from turning off the heater in the kitchen during the day to recycling more. More details will be sent out shortly
Next term we’ll be focusing some more on the environment and how we can look after it, got any ideas or tips to share? Reply to this email with your top tips and if we use your tip you’ll win a £10 e-voucher.
