“If you are going through hell, keep going.” ― Winston Churchill

This is the first of two quotes from former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Not only is this quote useful for exams, it will be relevant your entire life.

If you’re walking through hell, you have two choices. Stand there and endure hell forever or keep going until you reach the end.

This quote is famous and millions could benefit from learning.

Things don’t get better when you stop in the middle of them. They only stop once you complete the task at hand.

“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m Possible’” – Audrey Hepburn

This is a great quote considering we’re talking about exams. The sheer volume of work you’re facing may seem impossible, but nothing is impossible.

Exams and coursework are designed to push you to your limits, and sometimes beyond. They’re not designed to make you fail.

Bear that in mind when you feel as if the workload is impossible. It isn’t. It’s just difficult to see that it’s possible.

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have the same amount of hours per day that were given to Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo Da Vinci and Albert Einstein.” – H. Jackson Brown Jr.

H. Jackson Brown Jr. is an American author and is credited with this quote. It’s the ideal exam quote for when you’re up against a deadline and genuinely can’t see you have the time to complete revision or prepare properly for the exam.

Time management is key at university as you probably already know. Exam time is the ultimate test of that, with many demands on your time and a lot to juggle.

If you feel overwhelmed, just consider what Einstein, Da Vinci, Mother Teresa and Michelangelo achieved in their lifetimes.

“My advice is, never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time.” – Charles Dickens

This quote from Dickens is incredibly popular. It’s useful for work, school, university and life in general, which is why it’s such a common quote.

We have a tendency to put difficult tasks off until we absolutely have to do them. That can be a mistake, as this quote sums up perfectly.

Time is finite and passes faster than any of us can comprehend.

Plus, difficult tasks are the ones you should complete first, not last. Once done, the feeling of achievement is awesome and makes other tasks much easier to manage!

“Study while others are sleeping; work while others are loafing; prepare while others are playing, and dream while others are wishing.” – William A. Ward

This is maybe a quote you don’t want to hear but it’s one that will set you up for success at university and afterwards.

The workplace is incredibly competitive and you have to be prepared to work harder, longer and smarter than everyone else in order to succeed.

That can begin early, with exams. Have an end goal in mind and prepare yourself mentally to work harder than everyone else, but also smarter.

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” - Robert Collier

Exams may seem like one huge effort, but they’re the culmination of a series of much smaller efforts, as this quote sums up nicely.

Exams are a result of coursework, lectures, reading and anything extra you did during the year to get where you are.

Revision and preparation are also the result of small efforts that can end up with a grade you’re happy with.

Breaking large tasks down into bite-size pieces is a powerful psychological trick and can work for exams. That’s what this quote tells us.

"There is no substitute for hard work" - Thomas Edison

This is another exam quote you probably don’t want to hear, but coming from the guy who invented the lightbulb, it’s sage advice.

Very few people ever get anywhere without having to work. It’s an unpalatable fact but a fact nonetheless.

The faster you make your peace with it, the faster you’ll be able to knuckle down and achieve whatever you want to achieve in life. Starting with good grades.

“Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask.” – Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter is full of life lessons and this quote is one of them. It’s also timely advice, for exams and life in general.

The days of suffering in silence and making do without complaint are thankfully long gone.

If you need help, ask for it. Ask friends, study buddies, family, lecturers or counsellors. There’s help out there for everyone who wants it.

You just have to ask.

“If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice.” ― Unknown

This quote is similar to the work harder quote. Everything worthwhile in life takes effort to achieve. Otherwise, it isn’t worthwhile.

This exam quote sums that up nicely.

If you don’t sacrifice that night out or some sleep to achieve good grades in your exams, you’ll sacrifice those good grades.

It’s a hard truth, but a truth nonetheless.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ― Winston Churchill

This is a great inspirational exam quote but also useful for life in general. Success in your next exam is not the only success you’ll have.

Neither is it likely to be the last exam you have either.

Life and learning are a process and the exam is not the end.

Knowing that and having the courage to continue anyway prepares you for every challenge you’re ever likely to face.
